The Bangla Academy organized a press conference on the occasion of Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2022 at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Monday at 11 am. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid said the fair would be held from February 15 to 26 under the direct direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The duration of the fair may be extended if the Corona situation improves. The fair has been going on for two weeks now. Half of the stall allocation rent has also been taken from the publishers.
Culture Secretary Abul Mansur said that hygiene rules have to be followed in the fair. Academy officials-employees, publishers and stall-holders must have a certificate of vaccination. Those who go to the food store must also have a certificate of vaccination. There will be a round-the-clock mobile court at the fair. Failure to comply with hygiene rules will result in fines.
Member Secretary of the Mela Committee Jalal Ahmed said that the main theme of the fair this time was 'Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of Independence.' The 2021 Bangla Academy Award will be presented at the inaugural ceremony.
Director General of Bangla Academy Muhammad Nurul Huda and Secretary of the Academy AHM Lokman also spoke at the press conference.
Entrance to the fair will be at the front of the Institution of Engineers, TSC at Suhrawardy Udyan and Bangla Academy. The car park is in front of the Institution of Engineers.
The fair will run from 2pm to 9pm every day, but can be entered until 8:30 pm. The doors of the fair will open on holidays at 11 am and on the 21st of February at 8 am.
Stall 7 at the fair this time
This time a total of 534 companies have been allotted 6 unit stalls in the fair. There are 142 stalls for 102 institutions in the academy premises. 634 stalls have been given to 432 institutions in Suhrawardy Udyan. There are 35 pavilions. The pavilions have been spread throughout the fair in the garden part. Last year the pavilion was criticized for being just in front of the Independence Monument.
Apart from this, a place has been allotted for Little Magazine in the main premises of the fair on the east side of the open stage of the park. They have been allotted 128 stalls. Last time, there was dissatisfaction with the location of Little Magazine's stall.
Shishu Chattar will be in the garden part of the fair, but due to the cowardly situation, there will be no separate 'Shishu Prahar' this time. Thematic seminars will be held on the main stage every day at 4 pm. Later cultural events.
Strict security measures have been taken at the fair. In addition to the surveillance of law enforcement, the entire fair grounds and adjoining paths will be under CCTV surveillance.
