FIFA T-shirts are being made in Bangladesh

Although there is no Bangladesh team in the World Cup, the name of the red-green country is on the T-shirts worn by the spectators and fans. T-shirts are being made for a FIFA-licensed organization at a factory in Chittagong. The company also exported a consignment of T-shirts last week.


The World Cup will start on November 21 in Qatar. The football festival will continue till December 16 in eight stadiums of the country. FIFA licenses world-renowned organizations to supply clothing and equipment for the World Cup. Licensed companies order companies from different countries to make jerseys, T-shirts, jackets and other equipment.

Qatar is a well-known Russian sportswear supplier, like many others, for the FIFA World Cup clothing supply. The company last year ordered Sonnet Textile Limited of Gosaildanga in Chittagong's Agrabad to make six lakh T-shirts. The company started production of T-shirts from February this year after FIFA approval after all the processes. The export value of six lakh T-shirts is 15 lakh US dollars or about 13 crore rupees.


Visiting Sonnet Textile in Gosaildanga area of ​​Agrabad, it was seen that the second consignment of Football World Cup T-shirts was being packaged. Workers are checking the quality of four-color T-shirts for men and women and putting them in cartons. A worker named Sathi Akhtar told Trace 71 , “I have been working in the factory for two years. It's nice to be involved in making the official T-shirt for the World Cup. '

According to factory officials, strict conditions have to be met in making FIFA official T-shirts. No T-shirts can be supplied outside. Again, everything from design cannot be transferred anywhere.


Gazi Mohammad Shahidullah, director of Sonnet Textiles , told Trace 71 that 300,000 T-shirts were shipped last Thursday. Another three lakh T-shirts are awaiting export. Earlier, he also said that their organization was exporting Russia World Cup and Euro Cup T-shirts. Gazi Mohammad Shahidullah is the director of BKMEA, an organization of knitwear manufacturers.


It can be seen on the ground that 600 workers are working in this factory of seven storey building. Founded in 2009, Sonnet Textile has two more garment companies. The annual export of the group is 20 million dollars or about 161 crore rupees. 10-12 buyers from several countries of the world including Europe and United States buy clothes from this factory.


Knitted clothing is the predominant feature in this big event of global football which has been held for four consecutive years. Mohammad Hatem, executive president of BKMEA, an organization of knitwear manufacturers , told Trace 71 that a huge amount of T-shirts and jerseys are exported from Bangladesh every time a big event like the World Cup. This time too.

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), in the six months from July to January of the current 2021-22 fiscal year, exports amounted to 2,954.69 billion. 81 percent of the total export income came from the readymade garments sector. In the first six months of the financial year, garments worth 2.39 billion were exported. This income is 30.3% more than the July-January period of last year.
