The members of the committee formed to probe into the deaths of one animal after another at the Bangabandhu Sheik Mujib Safari Park in Sreepur, Gazipur, have been extended. Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and head of the investigation committee, confirmed the information in Prothom Alo on Thursday morning.
A five-member inquiry committee was formed on January 26 by the ministry to look into the cause of death. The committee was asked to submit an investigation report to the ministry within 10 working days. After the expiration of this period, the time was extended for another 10 days.
The investigation team and the concerned medical board members held a meeting at Irabati Rest House inside the safari park on Wednesday afternoon. In that meeting, the size of the investigation committee was increased in the interest of proper investigation. He has been a newly added Professor of the Faculty of Pathology, Bangladesh Agricultural University. Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan, head of the Central Disease Research Laboratory (CDIL) and an additional deputy commissioner as a representative of the district administration.

Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, head of the inquiry committee, told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone that reports of various sample tests were still pending. It is not possible to analyze all the hands. It will take some time to do the ancillary work. The issues that are coming up in the papers should also be taken into account . Time has to be extended in the interest of proper investigation.
According to the safari park authorities, members of the investigation committee and expert medical board visited different places of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park yesterday. In order to investigate, they collected some new data from different stages of the park. Earlier, members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police came to the park last Tuesday. A CID investigation team is working on the animal death.
The zebras have been dying one after another in the safari park since January 2 . The last time two zebras died was between January morning and evening. On January 12, a tiger died of anthrax . Authorities kept the news secret for a long time. Later, on the afternoon of February 3, a lion died in the park . Safari Park Project Officer has been removed in these cases of animal deaths. Jahidul Kabir, Officer-in-Charge Tabibur Rahman and Wildlife Medical Officer Hatem Zulkarnain.
