Online railway ticket selling stopped soon starting

The system of selling railway tickets by government agencies has not been institutionalized in three decades. Due to irregularities and technical complications, big questions have arisen about the arrangements for selling tickets. Tickets could not be bought on the app on Saturday. Online ticket sales also stopped within minutes of the start. Consumer suffering has reached its peak.

Sources in the railways said that the railway authorities were paying a part of the money for the tickets sold to the public. But the railways never paid attention to how the ticket sales system works, how the customer's suffering is reduced.

Railway authorities started selling intercity train tickets by printing them on computer from 1992. After that the ticket sales activities are done online and app based. An organization called CNS BD has been selling tickets since 2006. Computer-printed tickets are being sold online at 6 stations across the country, in a combination of apps and counters.

On February 17, another company called Sahaj.com got the new responsibility of selling tickets. Online, app and computer-printed tickets were closed from March 20 to 25 to facilitate the transfer of new responsibilities. Railway authorities released the address of a website for the purpose of launching online ticket sales on Saturday. Passengers suffered when the website went down shortly after the start of ticket sales yesterday morning. And although it is possible to buy tickets on the app till March 19, it was closed yesterday. In this situation, thousands of people crowded the big stations including Kamalapur, Bimanbandar, Chittagong to buy tickets only through the counter.

Enayetur Rahman, an employee of a private company , told Prothom Alo last night that he used to buy tickets on the app. After the app was shut down yesterday, he tried unsuccessfully to cut the ticket through the railway website. Go to Kamalapur station in the afternoon and see the line of thousands of people. Later he left for Sylhet by bus.

প্রতিষ্ঠান Change the organization in charge of selling tickets. আগের The previous organization did not explain the software-hardware. ■ Rail does not own the previous app. An average of 100 million tickets were sold that year. Half of these are sold online.

No one can say for sure when the online ticket sales will start. According to railway sources, Sahaj.com said that they will not be able to start online ticket sales soon. Although currently there is an obligation to sell half of the tickets online. So the railway authorities have asked Sahaj.com to report the problem in writing. If the online system is not launched, 100% of the tickets will be sold through the counter. However, this will not reduce the suffering of the customer.

Farhat Ahmed, manager of Sahaj.com's public relations department , told Prothom Alo that the previous contractor CNS Rail's app did not explain it to them. For this, the sale of tickets in the app has stopped. And CNS, the software and hardware for selling tickets online, explains the end times. Even then, Sahaj.com launched its online ticketing program by installing its own software and hardware. But after 22 lakh hits or visits per minute yesterday, there was a problem. He said that most of the online visits were from abroad. Their idea is that there may have been a cyber attack for this.

The railways sell an average of 100 million tickets a year. Of these, about 80 million tickets are computer-printed, half of which are sold online and through the mobile phone app. The other half is to be cut from the counter. For every ticket sold at the CNS counter, you get 2 rupees 99 paise. And they took about six rupees from each ticket sold online. On the other hand, Sahaj.com is getting only 25 paisa for each ticket sold. However, the company has agreed to earn Tk 25 crore in five years for advertising rent using the railway installation.

Sardar Shahadat Ali, Additional Director General (Operations) of Railways , told Prothom Alo that the previous app was owned by CNS. Initiatives have been taken to create new apps for this. There will be a detailed meeting with Sahaj.com today (Sunday) regarding the launch of online ticketing system.
