Anger over the quality of onions of TCB

After standing in line for about three hours in the hot sun, housewife Sharmin Akhter was upset even after receiving the product. The reason for his upset is that the onion bought with hard money is wasted. He said angrily, one kg of five kg onion wasted. He also raised the question as to why he was selling spoiled products.

Almost all those who bought products like Sharmin Akter from TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) trucks near Rampura Bazar in the capital on Monday expressed their displeasure over the quality of onions. They say that the quality of other products is good but the quality of onion is very bad.

The distributor of TCB in Rampura yesterday was Messrs. SS Enterprise. Distributor Saiful Islam said that they sell the products provided by the government.

Even before this, buyers have been expressing dissatisfaction with the onions sold from TCB trucks in different areas of the capital. In Jigatala area like Rampura, most of the buyers have expressed their displeasure by buying onions from TCB trucks yesterday.

In this regard, TCB spokesperson Humayun Kabir told Prothom Alo that the distributors have been instructed to throw away the rotten onions and sell the good ones to the buyers. For this every distributor is given extra onion. Subsidies are also given. If any distributor does not comply with this instruction, disciplinary action will be taken against that distributor if any evidence is found. He said the TCB warehouse now has about 200 tonnes of onions. There are about 600 tons more in the process of import.

TCB's truck arrived at Rampura yesterday at around 2 pm. At first the number of people was a little less but in half an hour the number of people standing in line around the truck exceeded 200. At one stage chaos was created in the line of women. Razia Akhter, a cleaner at a private hospital standing in line, said one person stood in line and made room for a few more. But others do not get a place in front of the line even if they come first. There is no discipline.

After standing in the men's line for an hour, Mostafa Kamal returned. He used to drive a rickshaw. He was injured in an accident and now he has to walk on crutches. He brought 300 rupees in his pocket. But soybean oil (2 liters 220 rupees), onion (5 kg 100 rupees), lentils (2 kg 130 rupees), sugar (2 kg 110 rupees), dates (1 kg 60 rupees) and gram (3 kg 150 rupees) The packages of these six products were being sold at 790 rupees. There was no one he knew on the line who would lend him money. He left to buy another day later.

In the rain VJO TCB line

At least 60 people were waiting to buy goods on the TCB line at Jigatala in the capital around 5.45 pm yesterday. Suddenly it started to rain, with strong winds. They did not leave the line. Wet in the rain, they bought the product. One of them is Shahida Akhter, a housemaid. Lives in Rayerbazar area. He said in the first light, he doesn't get a chance to stand in line every day because he works in someone else's house. So even if it got wet in the rain, the line did not leave.

It rained for about 20 minutes. In this, goods are also traded. Shahida Akhter received the goods at around 5.15 pm.
